Gjesdal municipality is a mountain and inland settlement located in the transition between Jæren, Dalane and Ryfylke, approx. 30 km southeast of Stavanger.
The municipality is large in extent with its 626 km2 in area and has recently passed 11,800 inhabitants.
The municipal administration is located at Ålgård, which is the largest town in Gjesdal. Other larger settlements in the municipality are Oltedal, Gilja and Dirdal.
