SANDNES EDUCATION AND RESEARCH CENTER HØYLAND (SEARCH)

New biomedical research center.

The heavy academic organizations University of Stavanger (UiS) and Health Stavanger / Stavanger University Hospital (SUS) do not have access to research facilities with animal stables. Premises with the possibility of research and surgery on animal models (goat, sheep and pig) are available at all other University Hospitals and Universities with major health education programs in Norway.

The Norwegian University of Environmental and Life Sciences (NMBU) has a section for small animal research and animal health at Høyland in Sandnes municipality.

The idea behind SEARCH is that a new biomedical research center in Høyland will form an arena (hub) for researchers from both human medicine and veterinary medicine, as well as contribute to collaboration between academia and business.

The Norwegian University of Environmental and Life Sciences (NMBU) has a section for small animal research and animal health at Høyland in Sandnes municipality. At this section, veterinarians and animal keepers work on many exciting projects. The supply of both healthy and sick animals is very good in Rogaland.

The unique thing about the SEARCH project is precisely the co-location between human medicine and veterinary medicine in a joint new building at Høyland in Sandnes. This could provide synergies for both fields. The distance of 20 min to Sola Airport also makes the center very accessible for national and international participants and partners.

The partners in the project (UiS, Stiftelsen Norsk Luftambulanse, SUS and NMBU) have signed a consortium agreement that regulates the relationship between them financially and organizationally. SEARCH is today organized as a project at NMBU and will be organizationally placed under them in the future.
